Detailed Narrative Description of Project:

The “Comprehensive Basic Survey of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM)” in the Republic of the Philippines was funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency. The sectors included in the Survey were (1) Basic Infrastructure (roads and bridges), (2) Governance, (3) Education, (4) Health and Medical Care, (5) Agriculture and Fisheries, and (6) Water Supply and Sanitation. Areas covered in the survey include the City of Marawi, and the five provinces of Tawi-Tawi, Sulu, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, and Maguindanao.
The study was conducted with the main objective of defining the sectors that need to be addressed if the ARMM is to succeed in its quest for socio-economic development and envisioned peaceful and progressive society.
Detailed Description of Actual Services Provided:
In pursuit of the objectives of the Study, the ARMM Comprehensive Basic Survey has the following scope of work:
1. Study and analyze the existing conditions in the region. e.g. socio-economic, policy/program, institutions, donors, trend, etc.; which include data collection and analysis for the different sectors;
2. Analyze the existing conditions, problems and needs of the sectors on health and medical care, education, water supply, infrastructure, agriculture and fisheries, and governance;
3. Conduct of interview survey, inventory survey, site inspection and project survey, traffic survey and other primary surveys necessary to supplement secondary data collected; and
4. Based on the analysis of existing conditions and focus group discussions with LGUs, formulate the programs/projects that JICA can promote, considering both aid strategy and viable approaches specifically tailor-fit for the ARMM, including prioritization and recommendations of the technical cooperation programs in the identified sectors.
